I love getting outside, being off my screens, and “touching grass,” as the kids say these days. But the fact of the matter is that because I’m neurodivergent and tactile sensitive, I don’t particularly love actually touching grass. Unless it’s on my own terms (AKA putting my feet or hands in the grass occasionally while otherwise staying completely on a blanket and avoiding contact with the grass).
If you’re like me — which I suspect you might be, if you’re reading this — having a quality outdoor blanket is key for “touching grass” time spent outdoors. We’ve rounded up three of our favorites here.
For a soft towel material…
Dock & Bay Picnic Blanket | $75-$90
We love the bright colors and vibrant designs on Dock & Bay’s picnic blankets. They’re soft towel material on the top and tough on the bottom, keeping you comfy and the towel dry. These towels are also made from 100% recycled materials and easily fold into its carrying pouch!

For a natural materials option…
TBCo Recycled Wool Picnic Blanket | $149
If you prefer natural materials, the recycled wool blanket from TBCo is a great option. Wool is naturally water-resistant and wicking, durable, and smooth to the touch. It comes with a leather carrying strap in the color of your choice, too.

For a quilted nylon feel…
Baggu Puffy Picnic Blanket | $72
For whimsical designs and a slightly puffy feel, we love the blanket from Baggu. It rolls up into a carrying strap for easy on-the-go adventures and is machine washable if you get it dirty. It’s made from recycled materials, and Baggu is regularly coming out with new fun designs, from strawberries to Mickey Mouse.
